Mercury Bay Museum

The building which houses the Mercury Bay Museum was originally built in 1937 as a dairy factory. In 1972 the Mercury Bay Dairy Factory ceased operations.

In 1978 the Whitianga Lions Club bought the dairy building and the deeds were transferred to Thames Coromandel District Council (TCDC) in perpetuity and forever to be used as a museum.

The Mercury Bay Museum is the Coromandel Peninsula's most visited museum with exhibits dating from 800-950 AD.

It exhibits include Maori artifacts from Kupe, HMS Buffalo (sunk 1840) , Kauri and Gum Industries, Dairy Factory, early settlers records and photographic collections.

A perfect activity for the entire family.
